Sensex jumps by 364 points, HDFC twins, Kotak Mahindra and ICICI Bank contribute most to the index gains
Taking cues from global markets, the Indian market on Monday saw a broad-based rally, with Sensex jumping by 364.36 points or 0.95 per cent and closing at 38799.08 levels. Nifty managed to close at 11466.45 levels, up by 94.85 points or 0.83 per cent.
The banks were the star performers in today’s trade with Kotak Mahindra Bank leading the gains.
The European markets were also seen trading higher, climbing to a one-week high on hopes of wider access to new COVID-19 treatment. DAX was up by 2.37 per cent, CAC 40 gained 2.24 per cent while FTSE inched up by 1.88 per cent.
Similarly, Asian stocks also saw firm trading after reports emerged that US companies might be able to do business with WeChat in China. Nikkei gained by 0.28 per cent, Shanghai was up by 0.15 per cent while Hang Seng leapt by 1.74 per cent.
Metals and oil gained on Monday with copper catching traders’ attention.
In Monday’s trade top Sensex gainers were Kotak Mahindra Bank which gained 3.53 per cent, IndusInd Bank jumped by 3.03 per cent, Bajaj Finance inched up by 2.97 per cent, HDFC Bank was up by 2.86 per cent and ICICI Bank strengthened by 2.44 per cent, etc.
The top Sensex losers in today’s trade were – Power Grid, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, Titan and NTPC falling by 2.06 per cent, 1.34 per cent, 1.33 per cent, 0.76 per cent and 0.47 per cent respectively.
The BSE Small-Cap index once again dominated the markets by gaining 1.57 per cent and outperforming Sensex and BSE Mid-Cap index. The BSE Midcap index was up by 0.44 per cent.
Cholamandalam Finance Holding, Adani Enterprises and Adani Transmission were the top Mid-Cap gainers while Universal Cables, Agro Tech Foods and Anant Raj Industries were the top Small-Cap gainers.
BSE Bankex was the top sectoral gainer with a leap of 2.45 per cent. BSE Telecom gained by 1.64 per cent. BSE Auto index was up by 0.07 per cent. BSE Realty index was down by 1.17 per cent while BSE Metal slipped 0.20 per cent. BSE Healthcare gained 0.18 per cent even as BSE IT index was down by 0.10 per cent.
