Sensex gains by nearly 400 points; Trident Limited down by nearly 3 per cent

Sensex rallied by 398.85 points or 1.08 per cent on Monday to close at 37,418.99 while Nifty gained by 120.50 points or 1.11 per cent to settle at 11,022.20.

A surge in Vodafone Idea's share price was witnessed during today's trading session after the telecom operator paid an additional Rs 1,000 crore to the government towards the statutory dues on the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) matter, ahead of the Supreme Court hearing. A positive outcome from today's AGR meeting can provide relief to Airtel and Vodafone Idea.

Globally, Asian indices showed mixed sentiments as Shanghai index gained by 3.11 per cent whereas Chinese stocks dominated Hong Kong's Hang Seng index which fell by 0.12 per cent. Japan's Nikkei index rallied by a mere 0.09 per cent and KOSPI dropped by 0.14 per cent. In European markets, FTSE 100 and CAC 40 were seen trading in red, down by 0.58 per cent and 0.050 per cent respectively, whereas DAX rose by 0.36 per cent.

Sensex winners comprised Bajaj Finance rallying by 4.23 per cent, Bajaj Finserv gaining by 4.06 per cent, HCL Technologies increasing by 4.01 per cent, Tech Mahindra rising by 3.91 per cent, Infosys up by 3.27 per cent, HDFC Bank gaining by 3.06 per cent, ICICI Bank up by 2.54 per cent, etc. Sensex losers consisted of Sun Pharmaceuticals dropping by 3.86 per cent, NTPC declining by 1.30 per cent, Maruti Suzuki dipping by 0.86 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank decreasing by 0.74 per cent, Larsen & Toubro falling by 0.66 per cent, ITC down by 0.64 per cent, etc.

Amongst BSE sectoral gainers, IT index was the biggest gainer, up by 2.30 per cent while Healthcare index was the biggest loser, down by 0.66 per cent. At a broad level, BSE small-cap index gained by 1.04 per cent and BSE mid-cap index rose by 0.91 per cent.
