Sensex gains by more than 200 points; Tata Power jumps 5 per cent, Laxmi Vilas Bank locks in at lower circuit

On Wednesday, domestic benchmark indices continued their gaining momentum. Sensex gained by 227.34 points or 0.52 per cent to settle at 44180.05 levels while Nifty rose by 64.05 points or 0.50 per cent to close at 12938.25 levels.

During today’s trading session, banking and auto stocks remained in highlight.

Shares of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) rose after the company's construction and mining equipment business secured one of its biggest-ever order.

Vedanta Group confirmed of putting in a preliminary expression of interest (EoI) for buying government's stake in Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL). The government intends to sell its entire stake of 52.98 per in BPCL.

Shares of companies belonging to Adani Group continued to gain. Adani Gas jumped by more than 17 per cent in today’s session.

In Asian markets, Shanghai index, Hang Seng and KOSPI gained by 0.22 per cent, 0.49 per cent and 0.26 per cent respectively whereas Nikkei declined by 1.10 per cent. In European markets, DAX and CAC 40 were seen trading in green up by 0.23 per cent and 0.22 per cent respectively while FTSE 100 traded flat.

Sensex gainers made up of Mahindra & Mahindra gaining by 10.76 per cent, Larsen & Toubro increased by 6.15 per cent, IndusInd Bank rose by 5.67 per cent, Bajaj Finserv gained by 5.62 per cent, SBI increased by 4.93 per cent, Bajaj Finance increased by 3.73 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers made up of HUL declining by 2.07 per cent, ITC fell by 1.74 per cent, Titan Company decreased by 1.69 per cent, TCS declined by 1.51 per cent, Bharti Airtel fell by 1.26 per cent, Infosys decreased by 1.18 per cent, Tech Mahindra fell by 1.17 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Capital Goods index was the biggest gainer up by 3.72 per cent whereas FMCG index was the biggest loser down by 1.10 per cent. BSE SmallCap index gained by 0.90 per cent and BSE MidCap index surged by 1.22 per cent.
