Sensex gains by 353 points; Vodafone Idea jumps by 14 per cent, Aarti Industries slips by more than 3 per cent

On Friday, the markets were dominated by the banks. Sensex managed to close at 39467.31 up by 353.84 points or 0.90 per cent. Nifty closed at 11655.25, up by 96 points or 0.83 per cent.

BSE Bankex was the best performing sectoral index, recording gains of 4 per cent on Friday. Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank and SBI together pushed the Bankex higher. IndusInd bank was the top banking gainer in today’s trade, up by 8.43 per cent.

The European markets digested the policy shift announced by US Fed and also Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe’s resignation citing health reasons by trading mixed in the morning session FTSE was trading in green, up by 0.16 per cent while CAC 40 was down by 0.02 per cent and DAX slipped by 0.25 per cent.

Asian markets were mostly up except for the Japanese index owing to the premier's resignation. Nikkei was down by 1.41 per cent while Shanghai was up by 1.60 per cent and Hang Seng jumped 0.56 per cent.

Top Sensex gainers on Friday were IndusInd Bank’s jump of  8.43 per cent, Axis Bank gained by 7.73 per cent, ICICI Bank rose by 4.41 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries inching up by 4.30  per cent, SBI up by 4.22 per cent, etc.

Top Sensex losers were Power Grid’s slip by 1.24 per cent, Infosys’ drop by 1.22 per cent, NTPC declined by 1.02 per cent, Asian Paints slid by 0.98 per cent, HUL down by 0.98 per cent, etc.

Small-Cap stocks saw profit booking even as the BSE Small-Cap index slipped by 0.23 per cent. Force Motors, City Union Bank and PVR were the top Small-Cap gainers in today’s trade.

BSE Mid-Cap index was up by 0.55 per cent. Canara Bank, Federal Bank and Sriram Transport Finance were the top Mid-Cap gainers in Friday’s trade.

After BSE Bankex, BSE Telecom index was the top performing sectoral index with 2.44 per cent gains. BSE Oil & Gas index was up by 0.42 per cent. BSE Power index gained 0.14 per cent while BSE Realty index was up by 0.16 per cent. BSE Metal index slipped by 0.27 per cent, BSE Consumer Durables index was down by 0.07 per cent, BSE Auto index slid by 0.86 per cent while BSE IT index weakened by 0.58 per cent. BSE Healthcare index tumbled 0.17 per cent.
