Sensex gains by 222.80 points; Nifty up by 67.50 points

On Thursday, domestic indices-Sensex and Nifty closed in green as Sensex gained by 0.73 per cent, which is 222.80 points to end at 30,602.61 level while, Nifty closed up by 0.76 per cent, which is 67.50 points to the level of 8,992.80.

Sensex and Nifty regain Wednesday’s losses as the markets expect a fiscal stimulus package by the government. The gains were primarily led by gains in the media and banking sector. Despite a positive performance in the markets, IT stock witnessed a decline as Wipro announced a disappointing Q4FY20. The volatility Index, India VIX fell by 7.65 per cent to end at one-month closing low. European indices that opened on a positive note, expected to pull up other global indices as FTSE 100 opened up by 0.31 per cent, CAC 40 was up by 0.67 per cent, German index DAX opened higher by 1.07 per cent and Swiss Market Index was opened in green, up by 1.28 per cent.

Sensex gainers included NTPC which was up by 5.84 per cent. Following it, were ICICI Bank-up by 4.52 per cent, Titan-up by 3.87 per cent, L&T-up by 3.65 per cent, SBI Bank increased by 3.46 per cent, Nestle gained by 3.18 per cent, HDFC Bank gained by 2.04 per cent, etc.

Sensex draggers were made-up of stocks such as HCL Technologies, shedding by 3.97 per cent, Tech Mahindra-down by 3.75 per cent, Hero MotoCorp was down by 2.29 per cent, TCS fell by 1.09 per cent, etc.

As for sectoral indices, Bankex gained by 1.43 per cent whereas IT fell by 1.77 per cent. Mid-Cap gained by 1.42 per cent to end at 11,578.31 level thereby, outperforming the benchmark indices. Small-Cap index gained by 1.71 per cent to end at 10,543.65 level.
