Sensex down by 1 per cent; IT, Banks stocks tank, Tata Motors shines
On the opening day of the new series, the key benchmark index Sensex slipped by more than 1 per cent and managed to close at 33,349 levels.
Yes Bank was the biggest loser on Friday, slipping by nearly 9 per cent, followed by Axis Bank which was down by 4 per cent.
IndusInd Bank was down by 3.14 per cent while IT majors such as TCS and Infosys slipped by 2.86 per cent and 2.43 per cent each.
FMCG major ITC was seen sharply down by 2.30 per cent on Monday.
Tata Motors was the biggest gainer, gaining by 2.09 per cent, followed by Reliance Industries which was up by 1.41 per cent. Bajaj Auto gained 1.13 per cent and Bharti Airtel inched up by 1.06 per cent showing some recovery in the counter after its steep fall on Thursday.
Tata Steel, HDFC and Hero Motors were the only other Sensex counters that closed in green.
