The semiconductor issue is raising serious concerns

The two-wheeler manufacturers in India have been struggling with domestic sales for quite some time now. Bajaj Auto has been no exception. The declining sales have been putting two-wheeler stocks down. Bajaj Auto has come out with sales figures for the month of March. Well, it has seen a 20 per cent decline on a YoY basis, which is said to be a better than expected 25 per cent downfall. Rakesh Sharma, executive director of Bajaj Auto has expressed his views on the sales front.

He said that the decline has come on the back of semiconductor shortfall. On the brighter side, he pointed out that other segments such as commercial vehicles and exports which are not related to semiconductors have been doing pretty well. The three-wheeler business has posted strong results which has led to the company snatching 70 per cent market share.

Talking about the demand for the two-wheeler segment he said that the demand from retail is still soft. However, it is witnessing good traction in the 125 cc segment which would help the company achieve a marginal gain in market share in Q1 of FY23. The company is working towards mitigating the semiconductors issue and he expects full production to be back in action by mid-June or July.
