President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, inaugurated the nation's inaugural Tema-Mpakadan Standard Gauge Railway Line, a significant infrastructure project undertaken by Afcons Infrastructure Limited. This ambitious project, valued at approximately USD 447 million, spans 100 kilometres and encompasses a range of essential components, including seven-passenger stations, a groundbreaking 300-meter railway bridge over the Volta River, two rail head facilities, and numerous road underpasses and overpasses.

This railway line is poised to revolutionize Ghana's transportation landscape by alleviating road congestion and streamlining port operations at Tema. By reducing reliance on road transport, the project aims to enhance the efficiency of long-distance freight and passenger movement. This transformative initiative was made possible through the financial support of India Exim Bank.

“We are proud to have executed the largest railway project in Ghana. This project will play a pivotal role in revamping and modernizing the country's railway infrastructure. The construction of a bridge over the Volta River is a classic example of extreme engineering,” said Mr S Paramasivan, Managing Director of Afcons.

Speaking at the event, President Akufo-Addo, said, “Today, we gather to celebrate the completion of the Tema-Mpakadan railway line. A vital component of Ghana's first multimodal transport system, to drive the economic growth of our nation. This 100-kilometer railway line complements a visionary transport system that integrates rail, road and inland water transport, connecting Tema Port to Buipe Port via the Volta Lake.”
