Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Friday commenced the first budget of the second Narendra Modi-led government. The speech lasted for over two hours. The FM has lowered the fiscal deficit target to 3.3 per cent for the current fiscal from the earlier estimate of 3.4 per cent of the GDP. Immense importance is given to Infrastructure, education, rural growth amongst other sectors under focus.

The markets on July 05, 2019 opened up. BSE Sensex is trading at 39,577.90, down by 330.16 points and the Nifty is trading at 11,839.05, down by 107.70 points.

In her budgetary address, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on one hand, announced an exemption of income tax for all taxpayers with income of less than Rs. 5 lakh, while increasing taxes for higher income slabs.

The NBFC sector received its fair share of attention in the Union Budget 2019. The government has relieved non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) from creating debt redemption reserves (DRR) to raise fund from public issues.

The benchmark indices were upbeat in Friday's morning session. The BSE Sensex hit a high of 40,032.41, while Nifty50 inched closers to the 12,000 mark hitting 11,981.75 level.
