BSE Smallcap index plunged 2.11 per cent to close the session at 27,762.59.

On Wednesday, the domestic equity markets were driven majorly by events namely the commencement of the IPO of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and an increase of 40 bps in repo rate by Monetary Policy Committee (MPC).  

Sensex tanked over 1,200 points and was trading at 55,775.81.09, down by 2.11 per cent, after RBI Governor announced a 40 bps rate hike in the repo rate at 2 pm on May 4, 2022.  

Nifty 50 also was down by 2.09 per cent and was trading at 16,712.80 levels.  

Indices ended nearly at the day’s low while Nifty plunged about 2.29 per cent to close at 16,677. Sensex tanked about 1,306 points amidst RBI’s decision to increase the repo rate by 50 bps.
