At the closing bell on July 26, the Sensex closed at 55,268.49 down by 0.9 per cent or 498 points, while the Nifty index closed at 16,483.85 down by 0.9 per cent or 147 points. On the contrary, Nifty Media closed stronger by 0.9 per cent at 1979.85. 

  Sun TV, PVR and Inox Leisure witnessed positive action in today’s session.

On May 22, the government imposed an export duty of 15 per cent on a selection of pig iron, flat-rolled products made of iron or non-alloyed steel, bars & rods, and various flat-rolled stainless steel products along with an additional 45 per cent on iron ore pellets, in an effort to rein in input prices and control rogue inflation.
