The major market indices experienced steep declines in the early trade, trading close to the day's low.

At 11 am on Monday, the headline equity indices, i.e. Sensex and Nifty 50 fell sharply post US market’s reaction to the newly-arisen fear of aggressive rate hike by Federal Reserve.   

At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 444.67 points or 0.74 per cent.

Despite the fact that there was a sharp sell-off witnessed in the frontline gauge, some of the SME stocks on BSE SME were on cloud nine!

Despite the market weakness, Ultracab India Ltd, Eros International Media, and DCM Ltd were the top low-priced gainers on BSE, locking in a 20 per cent upper circuit. 

Larsen & Toubro was one of the top-performing stocks in today’s market and these gains have been witnessed on a day when there was bloodshed on D-Street.  

BSE Smallcap index dropped 0.93 per cent to end at 28,175.38.
