Amid poor global cues, the Indian markets kicked off the week on a somewhat lower note. 

The shares of VA Tech Wabag soared 9 per cent on BSE after the company secured an order to design, build & operate (DBO) for 50 MLD (expandableto 100 MLD) Mamelles Sea Water Desalination Project from Société Nationale Des Eaux du Sénégal (SONES), the National Water Company of Senegal, worth about 146 million Euros. This project will help the company to enhance its global position in the desalination market.   

The reasons for the rally in the share prices of all three stocks are unclear as no major announcements have been made by the companies lately.

On Friday, the domestic equity indices reversed intraday gains and ended the day with minor losses. In the final hour of the trading, there was a lot of selling. All of NSE's sectoral indices ended in the red with the exception of IT and oil & gas. After touching the day's high of 16,793 in the early trade, Nifty fell below the 16,600 mark. 

BSE Smallcap index significantly underperformed broader markets by recording losses of 1.16 per cent to close at 26,384.14.
