Indices closed on a weak note ahead of crucial US inflation numbers. Nifty slipped 0.64 per cent while Sensex tanked 390 points.

The top low-priced gainers on BSE that locked at their respective 20 per cent upper circuits were Shree Krishna Infrastructure, Mac Hotel, and Pan Electronics India.  

The Nifty dropped below the level of 17,050. While bank, financial services and realty companies fell, pharmaceutical and healthcare equities rose.

At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 259.73 points or 0.45 per cent.

On Wednesday, Indian equity markets staged a decent recovery to record healthy gains.

The domestic markets regained momentum after the recent dip and climbed nearly a per cent, owing to mixed cues.  At close, Sensex zoomed 478.59 points or 0.84 per cent at 57,625.91 level while Nifty was up by 140.10 points or 0.82 per cent at 17,123.60.
