On Monday, the equity benchmark indices settled higher for the second consecutive session, lifted by the mega-merger of HDFC and HDFC Bank. A sharp fall in crude oil prices is predicted to have aided market sentiment. In the international markets, Brent crude oil contracted 14 per cent to $103.66 per barrel from around $121 a barrel last week.

Sensex was up by 1,335.05 points or 2.25 per cent at 60,611.74 level while Nifty was up by 382.90 points or 2.17 per cent at 18,053.40 level. About 2,534 shares have advanced, 796 shares declined, and 118 shares are unchanged.

All the sectoral indices ended higher with bank, metal & power, rising between 2 and 3 per cent each. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices too rose 1 per cent each.
