The optimism in Asian markets was reflected in Indian headline indices, which were boosted by significant gains in metals, commodities and telecommunication stocks. With gains of 2.83 per cent, BSE Metals had the best performance of the session. The BSE Sensex gained 0.54 per cent to 61,167 level at the close. The Nifty 50 index surged 0.51 per cent to a level of 18,197.

Tata Steel - The iron and steel major attracted investors on the first session of the year by becoming the top Sensex gainer and posting enormous gains of 5.86 per cent. Additionally, for a sum of Rs 14.80 crore, the company recently acquired equity shares of Tata Steel Advanced Materials Limited (TSAML). After the mentioned acquisition is complete, TSAML will be a fully owned subsidiary of the company.
Persistent systems - The Company is strengthening its ITES 360 connection with Microsoft by harnessing its cutting-edge technology to boost agility and power the company's next phase of growth. Persistent will use the Microsoft Viva platform to improve employee experience by leveraging the platform's powerful analytics. The stock rallied and closed the session 4 per cent higher.
AIA Engineering - The Company signed a shareholders' agreement with Clean Max Enviro Energy Solutions Private Limited and Clean Max Meridius Private Limited (CMPL) to subscribe for additional equity shares by right issue in order to maintain a 26 per cent ownership in CMPL. Shares experienced a slight increase and finished 0.79 per cent higher.
