Opening bell: Headline indices plunge following global cues

Asian stocks are trading mixed on Monday as investors monitor the Russia-Ukraine crisis and related sanctions. The Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) outflow was seen worth Rs 4470.70 crore; while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) inflow was seen of Rs 4318.24 crore in the Indian equity market on 24 February.
The BSE Sensex opened with a negative note of 745 points or 1.34 per cent down at 55,112.65. The BSE MidCap has slipped 243 points and is trading at 22,918.55. The BSE SmallCap has also dropped by 256 points and is trading at 26,194.38 levels.
The stocks trading in green on the BSE Sensex are Power Grid Corporation of India, Tata Steel, and Sun Pharmaceuticals. The Nifty 50 index saw a huge gap down opening lower by 270 points and is now trading at 16388.15 levels. The Bank Nifty is also plummeted by 699 points and is trading at 35,731.15 levels. The gainers on Nifty 50 are Coal India, Hindalco Industries, and BPCL.
Out of 3070 stocks traded, 887 stocks advanced and 2039 stocks that have declined in the morning session. 138 stocks are locked up in upper circuit and 282 stocks are locked in the lower circuit today, while 56 stocks are trading at a 52-week high and 44 stocks are trading at a 52-week low.
