Only Reliance Jio registers subscribers growth in August 2019
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a monthly Telecom subscription data for the month of August 2019 on Friday.
The data indicates that the only player that managed to report net addition was Reliance Jio which added nearly 84.45 lac subscribers during August 2019 period. Whereas, other two main players Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel registered a decline of 49.56 lac and 5.61 lac respectively in net addition of subscribers.
In terms of market share, the private players command nearly 90 per cent of the market share and the rest belongs to BSNL and MTNL as on 31st August 2019. Vodafone Idea remained the market leader with share of 32.03 per cent followed by Reliance Jio 29.74 per cent and Bharti Airtel 28.01 per cent.
While in terms of wireline subscribers, BSNL which has a market share of 49.34 per cent witnessed decline in subscribers by 1.41 lac. On the other hand, second largest player in wireline market, Bharti Airtel (20.68 per cent market share) reported 1496 net addition during August 2019. During same period, Vodafone Idea added 20,535 subscribers in wireline.
In the second quarter of FY20, Reliance Jio reported 40.8 per cent growth in subscribers to 355.2 million while ARPU for the period was at Rs. 120 per subscriber per month.
