NLC Commissions two units of 500 MW in new Neyveli Thermal Power Station

NLC India Limited commissioned two units of 500 Mega Watt (MW) each in its new Neyveli Thermal Power Station, the fuel for which is to be sourced from mines at Neyveli.

With the Commissioning of these units, the total installed power generation capacity of NLC India Limited has crossed 5000 MW. The power from this plant will be supplied to the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Puducherry.

So far, the highest capacity of a lignite-fired boiler in India was up to 250 MW only. Therefore, the units commissioned are set to be the first 500 MW lignite-fired power boilers in the country.

NLC India Limited is a company engaged in the power business. It operates over three lignite mines at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, and one at Barsingsar in Rajasthan, with a total capacity of over 30.60 metric tons per annum. Apart from this, it also operates power stations in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu and Barsingsar, Rajasthan, with a total installed capacity of over 3,240 MW.

By the time market closed on Friday, the stock was trading at Rs 54.40, up by 0.46 per cent or Rs 0.25 per share. The 52-week high was recorded at Rs 80.35 and the 52-week low was recorded at Rs 49.15.
