Mutual Fund Update: Worldwide open-ended fund assets increase by 1.5 per cent
It’s not only in India, but the size of the open-ended asset under management (AUM) has witnessed a growth globally. According to Investment Company Institute (ICI) at the end of the first quarter of 2018, worldwide, AUM of the open-ended scheme has increased by 1.5 per cent to US$ 50.01 trillion. This excludes funds of funds. In terms of cash inflows, the first quarter received US$ 584 billion in the first quarter. This inflow is lower than US$ 687 billion in the last quarter of 2017.
Part of the increase in AUM was due to depreciation in the dollar against other currencies. For example, on a US dollar-denominated basis, fund assets in Europe increased by 2.3 per cent in the first quarter, compared with a decrease of 0.5 per cent on a euro-denominated basis.
