Muted opening likely despite positive leads from Asian peers

A muted start is in the offing for the Indian markets Indian markets as the SGX Nifty suggests that Nifty could open almost unchanged at 11,430. Adani Enterprises, Adani Transmission, AU Small Finance Bank, Bombay Dyeing, Edelweiss Financial Services, Mahindra and Mahindra, Motherson Sumi Systems, Mphasis, Punjab National Bank, Sobha, SRF, Thomas Cook, TVS Motors are set to declare their results today.  

Most of Asian markets have risen on Tuesday following the positive trend seen in the US markets. China’s Shanghai Composite has surged 0.44 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng has risen 0.30 per cent and Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 Index has increased 0.26 per cent.   

Back home, key equity benchmarks ended the Monday’s trading session at record high, though the indices trimmed some of their gains in the second half of the trading session to end off day’s high. To conclude, Nifty advanced 26 points to 11,387 and BSE Sensex ended higher by 136 points at 37,692. The buoyancy in the broader market indices continued  as Nifty Midcap and Smallcap gained 0.45 per cent and 0.21 per cent, respectively. On the sectoral front, Nifty PSU gained 2.61 per cent and ended as top gainer, followed by Nifty Metal and Nifty Bank. On the flip side, Nifty Pharma lost 0.97 per cent, followed by Nifty FMCG and Nifty Realty. 
 
The US stock indexes eked out a positive close on Monday amid better-than-expected earnings reports. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied 40 points to close at 25,502,  the S&P 500 index rose 10 points to end at 2,850   and the tech-laden Nasdaq Composite index rose 48 points to finish at 7,860, posting a five-day winning streak, its longest since May. The stock of Facebook was seen buzzing on the bourses as reports suggested that the Social media giant is in talks with banks to incorporate users' financial information into Messenger.  

The European markets ended Monday’s session with mixed results. The DAX of Germany dipped 0.14 per cent; CAC 40 of France fell 0.03 per cent, while UK’s FTSE 100 added 0.06 per cent.
