Market close: Sensex gains 234 points
Indian equity markets headed northwards as major stocks from all sectors except IT and Media moved upwards on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex closed at 39,131.04, up by 234.33 points or 0.60 per cent, while Nifty50 closed at 11,661.05, up by 72.70 points or 0.63 per cent.
Among the top gainers on Nifty were Yes Bank, Tata Motors, Adani Ports, Sun Pharma and Bajaj Finserv, while among the losers were TCS, M&M, HCL Tech, Kotak Bank and UPL. Yes Bank registered a stupendous gain of 14 per cent. The most active stocks in Tuesday's session in terms of volume were Yes Bank, Tata Motors and DHFL.
The rally was broad-based with the index heavyweight Reliance contributing a positive 54.49 points, L&T 25.40 points, Axis Bank 20.91 points, Infy 20.50 points, Yes Bank 19.41 and HUL, HDFC contributing more than 17 points each, supported by Tata Motor, SBI and ICICI Bank. While pulling the index down significantly was TCS contributing negative 41.13 points.
Sectorally, all major indices expect Nifty IT and Media closed in green. Nifty Realty closed up by 1.93 per cent, Nifty Pharma was up 1.48 per cent, Nifty PSU Bank was by 1.37 per cent, while Nifty IT was down by 0.59 per cent and Nifty Media was down by 0.31 per cent.
The mover and shakers of the day includes Procter & Gamble up by 8.80 per cent, Navkar Corp and Manapurram up by more than 6 per cent each. On the losing end were Deepak Fertiliser, CG Power, PC Jewellers, KRBL and RCom, losing between 7 to 5 per cent each.
