Lacklustre auto sales this November

The auto sales numbers for November have kicked in with four-wheeler sales showing a drop on a YoY basis. Maruti and Tata witnessed a marginal drop. On the other hand, two-wheeler sales inched higher with TVS hitting 27 per cent increase and Hero Motocorp up by 16 per cent. The drop in the overall volumes can be attributed to a tepid festive season along with the liquidity crisis in the NBFC sector, leading to lesser auto loans. 

Maruti Suzuki witnessed a marginal drop of 0.7 per cent as the cumulative sales came in at 1,53,539  units in November 2018 as against 1,54,600 units in the same period last year. The exports took a hit in November as the sales declined by approximately 19 per cent at 7,521 units compared to 9,300 units exported in the corresponding month last year. 

Tata Motors passenger vehicles sales stood at 16,982 units, declining by just 1 per cent from 17,157 units sold in November 2017. The Indian auto giant had a disappointing month of November with sales dropping 4 per cent. The company which has been witnessing strong growth through the year, sold a cumulative (commercial + passenger vehicle) 50,470 unit in November 2018, as against 52,464 units in the previous year. 

Mahindra and Mahindra sold 16,188 units in November, expanding by 1 per cent from 16,030 units sold in the same month last year. The recent launches like the Mahindra Marazzo assisted the sales of  M&M.

Hero MotoCorp has registered November sales at 6,10,252 units, moving up by a per cent from 6,05,270 units sold in the same month of the previous year.

Bajaj has hit a 16 per cent growth in exports for the month of November, 2018 exporting around 1,41,285 units as compared to 1,22,022 units exported last month. On the domestic side, it sold 2,05,259 motorcycles as compared to 1,41,948 units sold in November 2017, registering a growth of a substantial 45 per cent.

TVS Motor sales jumped 27 per cent increasing to 3,19,965 units in November 2018 as against 2,51,965 units in November 2017. Domestic two-wheeler sales registered a growth of 28 per cent from 2, 03,138 units in November 2017 to 2,60,253 units in November 2018.

The biggest winner intraday of the batch is Bajaj, trading 1.05 times higher while Maruti and Mahindra&Mahindra are both trading in red. The S&P BSE Auto was at  20,774.53, 0.40 per cent down. Meanwhile, BSE Sensex was at 36,141.17, down by 0.27 per cent.
