Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) commissioned its 4th Coke Oven Battery at its Angul plant, thus, making it self-sufficient in coke requirement.

The company reported that the Coke Oven consists of 4 batteries of 45,000 tons, each of which will produce a total coke of 2.0 MTPA per month. This plant is responsible for supplying Coke to the country’s largest Blast Furnace, which has around 4,554 cubic meter volume already in operation at Angul, along with 2 Blast Furnaces at Raigarh in Chattisgarh. JSPL conceived and commissioned the Syn. Gas-based DRI plant at Angul based on a concept of making steel through coal gas-based DRI and EAF route, using high ash Swadeshi (Indian) coal to produce Syn. Gas for DRI.

Recently before the commissioning of this plant, coal mines, allocated to JSPL to run its gasification plant, were cancelled by Supreme Court. This event compelled JSPL to install a conventional steel, making facility through BF/ BOF route.

Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of JSPL, said in a press release that the company strives to receive coal for its Syn. Gas-based DRI plant to reduce dependence on imported coking coal. Mr. Jindal also added that when the coal gasification plant will get a regular supply of one type of coal from nearby mines at an affordable price, then it can be considered as a role model for the country’s steel industry, fulfilling a thorough environment-friendly coal gasification.

On Wednesday, the stock of the company closed at Rs. 144.5, up by 2.45 per cent or Rs. 3.45 per share. The 52-week high is Rs. 190.45 and 52-week low is Rs. 91.10 on BSE
