Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited and Microsoft Corp have formed a strategic relationship with the aim of accelerating digital transformation in the Indian economy and society.

This is a long-term 10-year commitment to providing solutions related to connectivity, computing, storage solutions, technology services and applications which are important for Indian businesses including the Reliance Industries ecosystems. According to the agreement, Jio will be providing an internal workforce with cloud-based productivity and thus migrate its non-network applications to Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

As part of Jio’s cloud-first strategy, adoption of the Microsoft Azure cloud platform will be promoted. Microsoft will be supporting Jio to build data centers across India which will consist of next-generation compute, storage and networking capabilities. The initial two data centers are being set up in Gujarat and Maharashtra by 2020. The agreement will benefit Indian startups to get access to efficient and affordable cloud infrastructure and platform services as well thus improving their performance. Small and medium businesses in India will also benefit from the same. To increase the adoption of technology in India, Jio will receive support from Microsoft in developing solutions which will support major Indian languages and dialects. The partnership of Reliance Jio and Microsoft marks as an important step in the cloud and technology space.

Post this announcement, the shares of Reliance would be in focus on Tuesday as the markets were closed on Monday on accounts of Eid-al-Adha.
