Indices fell for the second consecutive day; Nifty remains above 17,000 mark

On Monday, the equity indices continued their losing streak into the second trading day, finishing with minor losses.

On Monday, the equity indices continued their losing streak into the second trading day, finishing with minor losses. After touching the day's low of 16,917.25 in the early trade, Nifty managed to settle above the 17,050 mark. The market was supported by metal, private bank & media stocks while auto, IT, and consumer durables witnessed selling pressure. The domestic sentiment was harmed as a result of poor global signals.  

  

BSE Sensex closed on the red side on the first trading session of the month, losing by 84 points to end at 56,975 levels. Sensex Midcap index plunged too by 114 points to end the day at 24,3033 levels. BSE Smallcap index fell by 250 points to close at 28,361 levels. The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Induslnd Bank, NTPC, Power Grid Corporation of India, Tata Steel, HDFC, and ITC. However, stocks whose prices fell include Titan, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Asian Paints, and Maruti Suzuki.  

  

Nifty 50 cut down only by 33 points and closed at 17,069 levels. Bank Nifty, on the other hand, ended with a gain of 75 points and closed the day at 36,163 levels. The top gaining stocks were Induslnd Bank, Coal India, Power Grid Corporation of India, ITC, and Tata Steel. The stocks losing the most were Eicher Motors, Apollo Hospitals, Titan, Bajaj Auto, and Wipro.  

  

The total stocks traded today were 3,644, out of which, 1,244 advanced and 2,218 stocks declined. There were 182 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 282 while 298 stocks got locked in their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that have made a new 52-week high is 120 while 45 stocks hit a fresh 52-week low today.
