Indian auto manufacturers cheer on strong sales numbers
Indian automobile industry witnessed another strong month in terms of sales. The industry witnessed growth across all the segments, with the commercial vehicles witnessing the strongest growth.
The data released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers shows that the month of April witnessed active growth across the board. The passenger vehicles witnessed 7.5 per cent growth to 2,98,504 units on the back of 11 per cent YoY growth in utility vehicles, while the passenger car sales growth was a tepid 4.8 per cent.
The commercial vehicles segment saw significant traction in the month, which was largely aided by revival in demand and increased infrastructure activity in the country. The medium and heavy vehicles saw a whopping increase of 169.2 per cent YoY to 28,547 units. The shifting to higher tonnage vehicles and the BS-IV implementation were the key triggers for the growth.
The light commercial vehicles also saw robust growth of Rs.43.9 per cent YoY, led by revival in rural economy, farm loan waivers, etc. The two-wheeler segment, and especially scooters, witnessed growth of 12.6 per cent YoY and motorcycles grew by 19.3 per cent YoY to 12,29,526 units. Overall, the total two-wheeler segment grew by 16.9 per cent during the month.
