Five stocks witnessing short covering
Short covering refers to buying back borrowed securities in order to close out an open short position at a profit or loss.
Sensex as well as Nifty opened Friday's trading session in the red zone. At 12.06 pm, Sensex was spotted at 54,219.11 level, slipping by 1.60 per cent while Nifty tumbled 1.57 per cent to be at 16,239.85 level.
ITC, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, and Tech Mahindra emerged as the top gainers of the day, which soared 1.55 per cent, 1.35 per cent & 0.75 per cent, respectively. On the other hand, the top losers included Asian Paints, Maruti, and Hindustan Unilever, which tanked 5.35 per cent, 4.98 per cent & 4.97 per cent, respectively.
