In the morning session, the major market indices traded with moderate increases. A broad-based buying has been witnessed with auto, industrials, and power sectors outperforming. In terms of sectoral indices on NSE, auto, media, metal, PSU banks, and oil & gas indices have advanced.
At 11.57 am, the barometer index, S&P BSE Sensex climbed 361 points or 0.63 per cent to 57,932. Nifty 50 index also gained 114 points or 0.67 per cent to 17,272 levels. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Midcap index rose 0.89 per cent to the 24,269 mark while the S&P BSE Smallcap index gained 1.15 per cent to a level of 27,367. The market breadth was also positive. On BSE, 2,186 shares rose while 1,079 shares fell. A total of 180 shares were unchanged.
Most of the Asian stocks advanced on Monday. As a result of the recent virus outbreaks that weighed on demand, manufacturing activity in China actually decreased in July. On Friday, US equities rose for a third straight session as investors took in good tech profits and ignored worries about soaring prices and a possible recession.
