One of the important criteria while selecting stocks is the dividend yield. High dividend yield is preferred by most investors as a regular income can be generated via stock market investment. Also, steady dividends payout indicates the quality aspect of the company and hence regular dividend paying companies are considered less risky when compared to the high growth companies.
To get the dividends investors should hold the stock in their demat account before the ex-date.
For example, if the ex-date is 17th September, investor should own the stock by 16th September.
