Closing Bell: Sensex rebounds by 1040 points, Nifty scales 16900 ahead of US Fed meet
After closing down in the red yesterday, domestic equity bourses staged a comeback today.
Nifty Realty index closed up 3.64 per cent at 437.05 today. All the sectoral indices finished in the green with IT, oil & gas, auto, bank, metal, and realty indices rose 2-3 per cent, while capital goods, FMCG, and power indices gained 1 per cent each. Tomorrow, we may observe a volatile session due to weakly expiry and also Fed meeting today where a likely rate hike is expected after COVID-19.
The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, went down by 10.17 per cent to 28.54 levels. The Nifty 50 index ended up gaining by 306 points and closed at 16,969 levels. Bank Nifty closed higher by 680 points and ended the day at 35,702. The Sensex settled at 56,816 soaring by 1040 points. Similarly, the BSE MidCap index has zoomed today by 417 points and ended the day at 23,572 levels, the BSE SmallCap shot up by 395 points and closed at 27,383 at day end.
On the BSE Sensex today the top stocks were Shree Cements, Baja Auto, UltraTech Cement, Axis Bank, and Induslnd Bank. On the other hand, the top loser was Power Grid Corporation of India.
The total stocks traded today were 3534 out of which 2306 advanced and 1128 stocks declined, 100 stocks were unchanged. Number of stocks that were locked in upper circuit are 18 and number of stocks that were locked in lower circuit today were 7, while 112 stocks have made a 52-week high and 23 stocks made a 52-week low today.
