Closing Bell: Markets closed in red for the third consecutive day, BSE Energy and BSE Oil & Gas tumble the most!

The BSE Sensex closed in red territory on the third consecutive day with a fall of 153 points at 52,693 levels.

After a volatile day on Tuesday, the key benchmark indices closed in red after showing some recovery from day's low. 

Oil and gas, Auto, and Bank stocks fell, while pharma index ended the day in the green. 

In comparison to Monday's close of 78.03, the Indian rupee ended the day somewhat higher at 77.99 per dollar. According to figures issued today by the commerce ministry, India's inflation rate based on the Wholes e Price Index (WPI) increased further for the month of May, reaching 15.88 percent. 

The BSE Sensex closed in red territory on the third consecutive day with a fall of 153 points at 52,693 levels. BSE Midcap index sank by 35 points to end the day at 21,840 levels. The BSE Smallcap index plunged by 100 points to close at 24,942 levels. 

The Top Gainers of Sensex today were NTPC, UltraTech Cement, Bharti Airtel, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Infosys. The  top BSE Sensex  loser were Induslnd Bank, Tech Mahindra, Reliance Industries, Maruti Suzuki, and Asian Paints. 

The Nifty 50 ended in negative after a volatile day, down by 42 points and closed at 15,732 levels. Similarly, the Bank Nifty too dropped by 94 points and closed the day at 33,311 levels. The top gainers on the index were NTPC, Bharti Airtel, Divis Laboratories, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Cipla. The Top Losers were Bajaj Auto, Induslnd Bank, ONGC, Hindalco Industries, and Tech Mahindra. 

The total stocks traded today were 3,449 out of which, 1,550 advanced and 1,766 stocks declined. 133 stocks were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 196 while 198 stocks hit their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that hit a new 52-week high is 50 while 191 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
