Closing Bell: Market snaps 7-day losing streak, Sensex spikes by 1328 points

Domestic benchmark indices broke the seven-day losing streak to close higher on Friday.

Domestic benchmark indices broke the seven-day losing streak to close higher on Friday. The stock market ended on the upper amid positive global cues as US President Joe Biden declared severe sanctions against Russia. All the sectoral indices rallied. Realty, metals and PSU banks were in demand. The Nifty 50 and the Sensex settled at 16,658.40 gaining 421 points and 55,858.52, up by 1328 points, respectively. 

 

The Sensex MidCap index has increased today by 905 points and ended the day at 23,162.50 levels. Similarly, the BSE SmallCap zoomed by 1059 points and stood at 26,450.38 at day end. Bank Nifty on the other hand has climbed by 1254 points and ended the day at 36,483.05. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, went up by 1.10 per cent to 30.68 levels. 

 

On the BSE Sensex today the top stocks were Tata Steel, Induslnd Bank, Bajaj Finance, NTPC, and Tech Mahindra. On the other hand, the top losers were Hindustan Unilever and Nestle India. 

 

The total stocks traded today were 3464 out of which 2640 advanced and 729 stocks declined, 95 stocks were unchanged. Number of stocks that were locked in upper circuit are 300 and 296 stocks were locked in the lower circuit today. The number of stocks that have made a 52-week high are 73 and 52 stocks made a 52-week low today.
