Closing bell: Market ends four-day losing trend with Nifty closing over 16,450

The Indian market closed up by more than half a per cent on Thursday, putting an end to a four-day losing run. Oil & gas and IT stocks shined putting an end to a four-day losing trend.

In the final hour of the trading session, the market witnessed massive purchasing. All NSE sectoral indices ended in the green with the exception of Nifty Metal and PSU banking indices.  

The Indian market closed up by more than half a per cent on Thursday, putting an end to a four-day losing run. Oil & gas and IT stocks shined putting an end to a four-day losing trend.  

GG Engineering was the best-performing penny stock today. Today, the shares of GG Engineering got locked in the upper circuit, rising 20 per cent. After the business stated that it will acquire Zero Mass (ZMPL) for a total cash consideration of Rs 120 crore, BLS International Services rose 9.29 per cent to Rs 193.55. In today's trading session, small-cap companies including IEX, TTML, and CAMS surged more than 5 per cent each.  

BSE Sensex ended its losing streak and managed to close the day in green, up by 427 points at 55,320 levels. BSE Midcap index jumped 104 points to end the day at 22,635 levels. BSE Smallcap index too bounced up by 61 points to close at 26,039 levels. The Top Gainers of Sensex today were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharmaceuticals, and Tech Mahindra. However, the Top Losers were Tata Steel, NTPC, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, and State Bank of India.  

Nifty 50 also ended with decent gains at 16,478 levels, increasing by 121 points. Similarly, Bank Nifty soared 139 points and closed the day at 35,085 levels. The top gainers on the index were Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, BPCL, Reliance Industries, Eicher Motors, and Bajaj Auto. The top losers were Tata Steel, Shree Cement, Grasim Industries, Tata Motors, and NTPC.  

The total stocks traded today were 3,438, out of which, 1,761 advanced and 1,549 stocks declined. There were 128 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 228 while 145 stocks hit their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that hit a new 52-week high is 73 while 72 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
