Closing bell: Despite a weak start, benchmark indices managed to close higher on Tuesday

Today, the major gaining sectors were healthcare, consumer durables, and realty. On the other hand, the sectors that dragged down the index were energy, auto, and oil & gas. NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market volatility, plummeted 6.63 per cent to 19.43 levels. 

  

BSE Sensex closed again in green territory, rising by 350 points at 57,943 levels. Likewise, Sensex MidCap index climbed today by 156 points and ended the day at 23,852 levels. Also, BSE SmallCap scaled up to the levels of 27,827, up by 174 points. On BSE Sensex today, the top stocks were HDFC, Bharti Airtel, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharmaceuticals, and HDFC Bank. On the other hand, the top losers' list included ITC, Induslnd Bank, Maruti Suzuki, State Bank of India, NTPC, and Tata Steel. 

  

Nifty 50 index continued its winning streak on the second day, closing on a positive note at 17,325 levels, up by 103 points. Similarly, Bank Nifty also gained 136 points and ended the day at 35,847. The top winning stocks were Eicher Motors, HDFC, Divi’s Laboratories, Adani Ports, and JSW Steel. The major losing stocks were Hero MotoCorp, ONGC, Coal India, Indian Oil Corporation, and ITC. 

  

The total stocks traded today were 3,517, out of which, 1,435 advanced while 1,974 stocks declined. There were 108 stocks that were unchanged. Around 261 stocks got locked in their upper circuits while almost 391 stocks got locked in the lower circuit. The number of stocks that made a new 52-week high stood at 129 while 106 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
