Closing Bell: Benchmark indices conclude lower for the third consecutive session

The domestic equity benchmarks extended losses for the third session on Thursday. Among all sectors, only BSE FMCG, Bankex, Healthcare, and Realty ended on a positive note. Most of the European shares ascended whereas many Asian shares declined on Thursday. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market volatility went down by 0.13 per cent to 19.00 levels.
The BSE Sensex continued its downward journey losing 575 points at 59,034 levels. Also, the BSE MidCap index closed in red down by 105 points at 25,069 levels. Likewise, the BSE SmallCap also dipped after three winning sessions to levels of 29,474 down by 221 points. On the BSE Sensex today the top stocks were Mahindra & Mahindra, Tech Mahindra, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Induslnd Bank, and NTPC. On the other hand, the top losing stocks today were Titan, HDFC Bank, Wipro, HDFC, TCS, and Reliance Industries.
The Nifty 50 index finished at 17,639 plummeting by 168 points on the third consecutive day. Bank Nifty also tripped by merely 75 points and finished the day at 37,557. The top gaining stocks were Axis Bank, Divi’s Laboratories, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, and Dr Reddy Laboratories. The stocks losing the most were Adani Ports, Titan, HDFC, ONGC, and TCS.
The total stocks traded today were 3,514 out of which 1,708 advanced and 1,703 stocks declined. There were 103 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 352 and the number of stocks that were locked in the lower circuit today was 121. The numbers of stocks that have made a 52-week high are 185 and 12 stocks made a 52-week low today.
