Closing Bell: Barometers end with minor advances, Nifty closes below 16,700

BSE Sensex closed on the green side, gaining 33 points to end at 55,702 levels.

On Thursday, the domestic equity indices concluded the day with minor gains, mirroring mixed global indications. After hitting a high of 16,945.70 in the early session, Nifty ended below 16,700. Banks, FMCG, and real estate stocks fell while IT & metal stocks rose.  

BSE Sensex closed on the green side, gaining 33 points to end at 55,702 levels. BSE Midcap index, on the other hand, lost 50 points to end the day at 23,615 levels. BSE Smallcap index also plunged 88 points to close at 27,673 levels. The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Tech Mahindra, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Tata Steel, and Wipro. However, stocks that witnessed a price fall include Induslnd Bank, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Nestle India, UltraTech Cement, and Reliance Industries.  

Nifty 50 closed on the upper side at 16,682 levels, gaining only five points. Similarly, Bank Nifty ended with a loss of 31 points and closed the day at 35,232 levels. The top gaining stocks were Tech Mahindra, Hero MotoCorp, Infosys, HCL Technologies, and Tata Steel. The stocks losing the most were Induslnd Bank, Britannia, Sun Pharmaceutical, Tata Consumer Products, and Nestle India.   

The total stocks traded today were 3,461, out of which, 1,522 advanced and 1,817 stocks declined. There were 122 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 193 while 224 stocks got locked in their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that have made a new 52-week high is 79 while 49 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
