Closing bell: Barometers close near day's high; Nifty ends a tad below 17,500 mark

Today, the major gaining sectors on BSE Sensex were finance, information technology, Bankex, telecom, and realty. On the other hand, the sectors that dragged down the index were metal, energy, oil & gas, and power. NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market volatility, went up by 0.051 per cent to 19.64 levels.   

BSE Sensex closed positively on the third consecutive day, growing by 740 points at 58,683 levels. Similarly, Sensex MidCap index scaled up by 184 points and ended the day at 24,037 levels. Also, BSE SmallCap mounted up to the levels of 28,129, up by 302 points. On BSE Sensex today, the top stocks were Bajaj Finserv, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Power Grid Corporation of India, and Axis Bank. On the other hand, the top losers today were ITC, Tata Steel, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Airtel, and Titan.   

Similarly, Nifty 50 index closed on the upper side on the third day at 17,498 levels, gaining 172 points. Similarly, Bank Nifty has also extended its gains by 486 points and ended the day at 36,334. The top winning stocks were HDFC Life Insurance, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Consumer Products, Bajaj Finance, and Power Grid Corporation of India. The major losing stocks were ONGC, Hindalco Industries, JSW Steel, ITC, and Tata Steel.  

The total stocks traded today were 3,507, out of which, 2,112 advanced and 1,286 stocks declined. There were 109 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 364 while 236 stocks got locked in their lower circuit. The number of stocks that have made a 52-week high is 136 and almost 62 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
