Budget 2021: Highlights
Nirmala Sitharaman begins her Budget speech by quoting Rabindranath Tagore’s line, “Faith is the bird that feels the light when the dawn is still dark.”
The Finance Minister highlighted the main pillars of this year’s Budget:
Health
Human capital
Innovation and R&D
Physical infrastructure
Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 35,000 crore for the COVID-19 vaccine. However, she further added that ‘the government is committed to providing more funds’ while mentioning that India has two COVID-19 vaccines available right now, and more vaccines are expected soon.
In addition to this, she said that the Government is set to launch Mission Poshan 2.0 along with Jal Jeevan Mission Urban. "The Urban Swachh Bharat scheme will be implemented with an outlay of over Rs 1.4 lakh crore," she further added.
While talking about Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat, Nirmala Sitharaman said that the focus would be given to the reduction of single-use plastic, air pollution & segregation of waste.
