BHEL reaffirms top position in Indian Nuclear Power sector on receiving new orders
BHEL emerged as the lowest bidder for the fleet mode tender floated by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) in an open competitive bidding.
The bidding was taking place for the 6x700 MW Turbine Island Package Projects by NPCIL. BHEL, with the lowest bid of Rs 10,800 crore, was successful in receiving the order. With this, the company has retained the market leadership position of being the sole Indian supplier of nuclear steam turbines.
Pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWRs) are the mainstay of the Indian Nuclear Power Programme. Notably, 12 out of 18 operating PHWRs of NPCIL is equipped with BHEL-supplied steam turbine generator sets (10x220 MWe+2x540 MWe) while the balance is imported from Canada and Ukraine. These sets have continuously been exhibiting excellent performance with Kaiga Unit-1, creating a world record of uninterrupted operation for 962 days; thus, showcasing their excellent quality products.
The share price of the company reacted positively and was up by more than 7 per cent in the early morning hours on Thursday. At around 3.00 pm, it was trading at Rs 51.90, which is 3.59 per cent above its previous closing price of Rs 50.10.
