BHEL commissions greenfield project in Telangana

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been successful in commissioning the first two pumping units (116 MW each) of the 7x116 MW Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS) Package-6 in Telangana. The pump for each unit is designed to lift 89.16 cumecs (cubic metres per second) of water by 105.5 metres.

This greenfield lift irrigation project (formerly known as Pranhita Chevella) is located in Peddapalli district of Telangana, developed by the Irrigation & CAD (I&CAD) department of the Government of Telangana. In the project, water shall be lifted from Sripada Yellampalli reservoir to Medaram reservoir and will be used for irrigation and water supply in the nearby areas, thereby contributing to the overall development of the area and the state of Telangana.

BHEL’s contribution to the project includes Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) works including design, manufacture, supply and supervision of erection and commissioning of seven sets of Vertical Pump-Motor sets along with associated auxiliaries.

In Telangana, BHEL has so far commissioned 27 Pump-Motor sets of various ratings cumulatively aggregating to 753 MW. In addition, BHEL is presently executing another 38 Pump-Motor sets totalling 5,125 MW for various Lift Irrigation Schemes in Telangana, viz. Kaleshwaram (Pranhita Chevella) LIS Packages and Palamuru Rangareddy LIS Packages. Also, it has made a significant contribution to the hydro sector of Telangana and has commissioned 1,073 MW of hydropower projects in the state so far.

BHEL has also been executing hydro-electric projects not only in India but across the world including countries like Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Rwanda, Thailand, New Zealand, Nepal and Vietnam.

On Thursday, the stock of BHEL opened at Rs. 71.10. In the morning trading session, it touched Rs. 71.60, up by 1.2 per cent. Later it got closed at Rs. 69.65.
