BEML flags off last train for Kolkata Metro (East-West) project
BEML Limited, a premier manufacturer of metro cars in India as well as Schedule A company under Ministry of Defence, has flagged off last train set for Kolkata Metro (East-West) project from its metro coach factory at Bangalore Complex.
BEML secured the contract for 14 train sets (six cars each), valued at around Rs 900 crore from Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC).
Rail Coach Factory of BEML situated in Bangalore is the first all-steel integrated rail coach factory established by Government of India during 1948. It was set up with the assistance and technical know-how imparted by MAN, Federal Republic of Germany.
This factory was established with an aim to indigenously manufacture passenger rail coaches (of broad gauge) for the use of Indian Railways. Subsequently R&D at Bangalore Complex was established during 1979-80 with an objective to be self-sufficient with regard to design and development of new products. Since its inception, several products have been designed, developed and productionized to meet the requirements of Indian Railways and various metro corporations.
BEML independently completed the design, manufacturing activities. The prototype train set was delivered during March 2018, which was thereafter subjected to extensive testing and trials on KMRC mainline including statutory testing by Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) & CRS and cleared all the tests. Subsequently, BEML built KMRC train sets were put to revenue operation since February 2020 and are operating satisfactorily. Further, six more train sets are ready for revenue operation.
BEML stock opened at 604, up by 1.40 per cent or Rs 8.35 per share from its previous day's close.
