BDL & Thales join hands to manufacture STARStreak Air Defence System in India
Bharat Dynamics Ltd informed that the company has signed an agreement to collaboratively work in partnership on STARStreak Air Defence System in India. The announcement was made on Thursday after the market hours.
This partnership has the support of both, the Government of India as well as the United Kingdom. They signed the agreement at a virtual ceremony held on January 13, 2021. BDL will also become a part of STARStreak global supply chain, providing a path for export of the system to the existing and the future of STARStreak Air Defence customers, which also includes the UK Armed Forces through this agreement.
BDL is also striving through its global outreach to connect foreign companies in order to take the ‘Make in India’ mission further. Meanwhile, Thales and BDL have also previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the opportunity of transferring the technology for STARStreak, which indicates a positive outcome. The current agreement also provides a chance to BDL to offer STARStreak missile to Indian Arm Forces having a minimum of 60 per cent of indigenous content and design & development of the system thereby, qualifying it under ‘Make in India’ programme.
Founded in Hyderabad, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) designs and manufactures underwater guided weapon systems. It is one of India's manufacturers of ammunitions and missile systems.
BDL's share was trading at Rs 353.10, up by 1.42 per cent during the first half of the trading session on Friday.
