Benchmark indices extended losses with BSE Sensex closing at 52842.75 down 1491 points or 2.7 per cent, while Nifty50 closed at 15863.15 down by 382 points or 2.4 per cent.
Weakness persisted in the broader markets which largely ended in red territory under selling pressure. BSE Midcap closed at 22108.94 and BSE Smallcap at 25681.12, both giving in to the selloff. BSE500 lost 2.4 per cent or 531 points to close at 21557.46 for the week.
HEG, KSB and Hindalco witnessed positive action in today’s session.
HEG zoomed 12.80 per cent in today’s session to emerge as the biggest gainer in ‘A‘ Group. The shares of the Graphite Electrodes manufacturer were buzzing on the bourses today, touching the day’s high at Rs 1314 and Rs 1107.1 as the day’s low while it closed at Rs 1277.90 apiece. The stock recently logged its 52-week low of Rs 1030.75 on February 24 as the sector was under selling pressure amid market volatility.
Hindalco soared 6.42 per cent in today’s session on the back of Jefferies maintaining the 'buy' call on the company and raising the target price to Rs 700 from Rs 660 per share. Hindalco should be a beneficiary especially given the bulk of coal coming from Coal India at below-global prices, as per Jefferies. Today, the stock logged an intraday high and low of Rs 623.10 and Rs 587.80, respectively and closed at Rs 619.80.
KSB, the pump manufacturer gained 6.36 per cent in today’s session. The company is a part of Germany based KSB Group In today’s session, the stock logged an intraday high and low of Rs 1159.90 and Rs 1022.85 and closed at Rs 1114.
