The beginning of calendar year 2019 brought cheers to some stocks as they managed to post stellar return in the first fortnight of January 2019. From January 1 to 14, the benchmark indices such as Nifty and Sensex delivered a negative return of around 1.6 per cent and 1.11 per cent, respectively, but these stocks managed to buck the trends rally in a difficult market.

Below is the list of top 5 stocks which outperformed the broad market indices.

Praj Industries is the leader in bio-energy business in India with market share of around 70 per cent. The stock started its rally after the government made favourable changes in ethanol policy. On the other hand. Vakrangee which was in the news for all negative reasons in 2018, surged in January 2019 after it announced that the government has found no irregularities in its books.

There were stocks which were badly hit in the beginning of 2019 itself. Here is the list of these top 5 losers.

Merger announcement between Gruh Finance and Bandhan Bank caused a decline in their respective stock prices as investors sees this as desperate move from Bandhan Bank to comply with RBI’s minimum shareholding norm.
