On Wednesday, Nifty 50 began flat with an upward bias at 16,977.3, up from its previous closing of 16,951.7. Even though global markets were poor, this was achieved. On Tuesday, leading Wall Street indices concluded lower as investor attention moved from the latest upheaval in the banking sector back to fears about potential rate rises by the US Fed.
In overnight trade, Nasdaq Composite sank 0.45 per cent, Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.12 per cent, and S&P 500 fell 0.16 per cent. Nonetheless, at the time of writing, their respective futures were trading in the green. On Wednesday, Asian market indices were largely trading higher. Apart from China's SSE Composite index and South Korea's KOSPI, all other indices were trading positively.
Nifty 50 was trading at 17,010.8, up 59.1 points or 0.35 per cent, at 10:05 a.m. Frontline indices, on the other hand, underperformed broader market indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index rose by 0.64 per cent and Nifty Small-Cap 100 index advanced by 0.98 per cent.
The advance-decline ratio on the BSE was positive, with 2026 stocks rising, 939 falling, and 99 staying unchanged. All sectors were trading in the green, with automobiles, media, and metals taking the lead.
FIIs were net purchasers, while DIIs were net sellers, according to statistics as of March 28. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) invested Rs 1,531.13 crore in shares. DIIs (Domestic Institutional Investors) sold shares worth Rs 156.11 crore.
