ICICI Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity Fund - Performance Focus
If you are looking to invest in quality stocks with a fair degree of risk, the ICIC Prudential Focused Bluechip Equity Fund is the ideal option for you. Barring the first few quarters of its launch, the fund has consistently outperformed on all fronts. In the previous year, when the markets were highly volatile and most of its peers struggled to even match the performance of the Sensex and Nifty, this fund sailed through comfortably. It yielded 5.53 per cent in the last one year vis-à-vis the average performance of -0.59 per cent posted by its peer group. The fund has also managed to beat its peers and the Sensex by a huge margin over the past two and three-year periods.
As the name suggests, this is a purely Large-Cap fund that focusses mainly on the top 20-30 stocks listed on the NSE according to market-cap, i.e. the blue chips. It usually has a pretty low churn in its portfolio, as the fund manager sticks to calls taken irrespective of market noise. Thus, investors will not find heavily oscillating cash allocations and a highly churned portfolio, which ultimately lead to higher expense ratios. The fund is also fully invested in equities at most times, and this strategy has helped it substantially over the years. However, the tight portfolio it carries can sometimes be a drag on its performance when the markets correct too steeply and too fast. Overall, this is a highly reliable offering for those who wish to stick to the ‘big daddies’ of the market.
