Nifty touches 10,000-mark first time ever; telecom & metal stocks shine
July 25, 2017 will go down as a historic day for the Indian stock markets as NSE's benchmark index Nifty for the first time ever touched the 10,000-mark. Nifty, however, corrected from the historic high to close at 9964.55, c by 0.02 per cent. The BSE Sensex managed to close almost flat at 32,228.27 level.
Axis Bank was the top Sensex gainer, clocking 1.94 per cent gains on Tuesday. Bharti Airtel gained 1.76 per cent, TCS closed higher by 1.50 per cent, even as Tata Steel moved up by more than 1 per cent.
Lupin was the top Sensex loser, slipping 1.96 per cent, followed by Tata Motors which closed down by 1.61 per cent. Coal India closed lower by 1.07 per cent. RIL single-handedly dragged down the Sensex in the red, contributing negative 22.2 points to the Sensex.
BSE Telecom index was the best sectoral index gainer, followed by BSE Metal index. The BSE Auto index was the worst performer among the sectoral indices, followed by BSE Healthcare and BSE FMCG.
