Mr. Ashishkumar Chauhan honoured with Dr. R. H Patil award for excellence in Financial Services

Mr. Ashish Kumar Chauhan has been honoured with Dr. R .H .Patil award for excellence in Financial Services, in a Stock summit held today at International Convention Hall at Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), Dalal Street, Mumbai. He received this distinct award from Shrimati Meeneka Gandhi (an animal rights activist, an environmentalist and a politician). Also present at the ceremony was Mr. Subramaniam Ramodarai (Chairman – BSE).

Late Dr. R. H. Patil was the moving force behind the success of National Stock Exchange and was reputed for his success in the government securities market. He was Chairman of Clearing Corporation of India and was ex-Managing Director of the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE). He belongs to a rare category – serial institutional-entrepreneur.

Mr. Ashishkumar Chouhan is an Indian business executive and administrator. He is the current Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of the Bombay Stock Exchange. Mr. Chauhan graduated from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1989, after which he joined Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM Calcutta) for an MBA. After graduating from IIM-C in 1991, Mr. Chauhan joined IDBI Bank.

Mr. Chauhan was a member of the core team that founded the NSE. He moved into a permanent role at the NSE in 1993, and stayed till 2000 when he left as the Vice President. At NSE, Chauhan set up the first successful screen based trading framework in equities in India which has grown to be the largest equities market in India, created NSE-50 (Nifty) Index and established India's first commercial satellite telecom network.

Mr. Chauhan has held various senior positions in large corporate houses including Reliance Industries and Reliance Communications. He has also been the CEO of Mumbai Indians, a cricket team in the Indian Premier League. Mr. Chauhan left Reliance and joined Bombay Stock Exchange in 2009 as the Deputy CEO. He has been serving as MD and CEO of BSE since November 2012. Mr. Chauhan also serves as the shareholder Director on the Board of Indian Clearing Corporation (ICCL) which provides clearing and settlement services to BSE AND THE United Stock Exchange (USE).

Mr. Chauhan serves on the Board of Directors of Central Depository Services Limited (CDSL), Bank of India Shareholding Limited (BOISL), BSE Institute (BIL) and Market place Technologies. He also serves on the Board of Governors of IIT Jabalpur.
